 53 crew members of missing submarine honored by president

Wednesday 21 April, the Indonesian navy confirmed the disappearance of their KRI Nanggala-402 submarine. The signal has stopped sending signals north of the island of Bali while the submarine was on exercise. The crew could survive 72 hours. After 3 days of research, the crew of the submarine was presumed dead this Sunday.

After the submarine was found in several pieces in the sea, the president paid tribute to the 53 crew members.

President Joko Widodo wrote on Twitter : "For the dedication and sacrifice of these 53 soldiers, the state will give awards for promotion to one level higher and a sign of honor for the Bintang Jalasena."

The Bintang Jalasena, the Meritorious Service Star of the Navy, is an award given to members of the Indonesian Navy.

Widodo also said that the children of the crew members will be accompanied by the Indonesian government up to university level.

Le sous-marin indonésien KRI Nanggala-402 a été porté disparu au nord de l’île de Bali mercredi 21 avril alors qu’il était un exercice. En effet, le sonar de ce dernier a brusquement arrêté d’émettre. En cas d’urgence comme celle-ci, les membres d’équipage peuvent survivre pendant 72h. Les 53 membres de l’équipage ont été présumés morts après plusieurs jours d’intenses recherches.

Le sous-marin a finalement été retrouvé en plusieurs morceaux. Il avait coulé et l’équipage n’a pas survécu. Le gouvernement indonésien a tenu à récompenser les 53 membres du navire.

"Pour le dévouement et le sacrifice de ces 53 soldats, l'Etat va promouvoir les membres d’équipage à un grade supérieur et ils recevront le Bintang Jalasena", a déclaré le président Joko Widodo sur Twitter.

Le Bintang Jalasena est la Médaille de la marine indonésienne.

Pour finir son discours, le président Widodo a déclaré que les enfants des victimes auront l’assurance d’être accompagnés par le gouvernement indonésien pendant leur scolarité jusqu’à l’université.

113 dead after flooding in Indonesia and East Timor

Floods due to rainstorms from Cyclone Seroja have caused colossal damage in Indonesia and East Timor.
More than 110 people have died and dozens more are missing in the floods and landslides. The Indonesian disaster management agency has announced 86 dead and 71 missing, meaning that 27 people have died in East Timor.
This deluge overflowed water tanks and flooded thousands of homes as rescuers tried to assist the victims. The storm is currently heading towards Australia and is expected to cause waves of nearly 6 meters high.

Seroia a fait 113 morts en Indonésie et au Timor Oriental 

Des crues et des inondations provoquées par des pluies dues au cyclone Seroja ont fait des dégâts colossaux en Indonésie, et au Timor oriental.

Plus d’une centaine de personnes sont mortes et des dizaines d’autres sont portées disparues dans les inondations et les glissements de terrain. L'Agence de Gestion des Catastrophes a annoncé 86 morts et 71 disparus, 27 autres personnes ont trouvé la mort au Timor oriental.

Ce déluge a fait déborder des réservoirs d’eau et inondé des milliers de maisons alors que les secouristes tentaient de porter assistance aux sinistrés. La tempête se dirige actuellement vers l’Australie et devrait provoquer des vagues de près de 6 mètres de hauteur.
