On October 10 in Bali, police arrested 4 people suspected of being associated with child trafficking on Instagram.
An Instagram account with around 700 followers, pretending to be a "family welfare agency” was regularly posting pictures of babies, ultrasounds or pregnant young women.

All these photos were often accompanied by strange captions, with a lot of information like the stage of pregnancy or the age of the baby, weight, size, and religion.

The account was actually a clandestine site to sell or buy babies.
On October 10, the police dismantled the traffic by arresting 4 people: a mother who was selling her baby, a baby buyer; an intermediary and the owner of the instagram account. These four people had planned to meet and talk about the terms and conditions for the purchase of the 11-month baby. The baby was “estimated” at a price of 15 million rupees (about 850 euros).
They face 15 years in prison for trafficking and endangering children.
Some very young and poor women seek to sell their babies. Moreover, in Indonesia sex is a taboo subject with a very conservative Muslim population.
Abortion is illegal in the archipelago, except in case of rape or if the baby may hurt or kill the mother.
Child trafficking remains common in Indonesia.

Bébé à vendre sur Instagram

En effet un compte Instagram détenant plus de 700 abonnés, se faisait passer pour une << agence de bien-être familial >>, postait régulièrement des photos de bébés, d'échographies ou encore de jeunes femmes enceintes.

Le compte était en réalité un site clandestin pour vendre ou acheter des bébés.
Le 10 octobre dernier, La police a pu démanteler ce trafic en arrêtant 4 personnes: la mère d'un bébé, un futur acheteur, un intermédiaire et le propriétaire de la page Instagram . Ces quatre personnes avaient prévu de se rencontrer afin de discuter des modalités de vente du bébé de 11 mois. Le bébé était « affiché » au prix de 15 millions de roupies (environ 850euros)
Les protagonistes peuvent encourir jusqu'à 15 ans de prison pour trafic et mise en danger d'enfant.
Les femmes qui cherchent à vendre leur bébé sont généralement très jeunes et très pauvres.
De plus, en Indonésie le sexe est un sujet très tabou avec une population musulmane très conservatrice.
D'ailleurs l'avortement est illégal dans tout l'archipel, sauf en cas de viol ou si le bébé met en danger la vie de la mère.
Malheureusement le trafic d'enfant reste une chose assez courante en Indonésie bien que la police tente d'éradiquer ces crimes.
