Islamist terrorist arrested 18 years after Bali bombings

 

57-year-old and on the run for 18 years, Indonesian police arrested Zulkarnaen, a senior leader of the Islamist organization Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) linked to Al-Qaeda, who was wanted for his role in the 2002 bombings in Bali which left 202 dead and 209 wounded. A veteran of the war in Afghanistan, Zulkarnaen had created within the JI a special unit responsible for the organization of the attacks in which thousands of people died between 1998 and 2002.


Before his arrest on December 13, he was one of the most wanted fugitives in Indonesia, and the only Indonesian on the US wanted list. Washington promised a first of five million dollars for his capture.

La police indonésienne a arrêté Zulkarnaen, Agé de 57 ans et en fuite depuis 18 ans.

C’était un des principaux dirigeants de l'organisation islamiste Jemaah Islamiyah (JI), liée à Al-Qaïda.

Il était recherché pour son rôle dans les attentats de 2002 à Bali qui avaient fait 202 morts et 209 blessés.

Vétéran de la guerre en Afghanistan, Zulkarnaen avait créé au sein de la JI une unité spéciale chargée de l’organisation des attentats dans lesquels des milliers de personnes ont péri entre 1998 et 2002.



Avant son arrestation le 13 décembre dernier, il était un des fugitifs les plus recherchés en Indonésie, et était le seul Indonésien sur la liste américaine des personnes les plus recherchées. Washington promettait une prime de cinq millions de dollars pour sa capture.

This week, Indonesia received the first bundle of Covid-19 vaccine from China. 1.2million doses are currently stored in a pharmaceutical depot in Bandung.

President Joko Widodo announced that he is still waiting for the emergency approval from the Indonesian Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM).

Indonesians are happy to finally have a vaccine that can curb the pandemic.

Indonesia ordered about 143 million doses of the vaccine which will be administered to ensure the safety of as many citizens as possible.

The BPOM authorization could delay the release until the end of January.

Le vaccin du Covid-19 est arrivé mais…

Dimanche soir, l’Indonésie a reçu le premier lot de vaccins en provenance de Chine contre la Covid-19. Un lot de1,2millions de doses est pour le moment stocké dans un entrepôt pharmaceutique de Bandung.

Le président Joko Widodo déclare attendre maintenant le feu vert des autorités médicales (BPOM) avant de diffuser le vaccin.

Les Indonésiens sont heureux d’avoir enfin un vaccin afin de pouvoir ralentir l’épidémie.

L’Indonésie a commandé environ 143 millions de doses qui seront administrées à un maximum de citoyens.

L’autorisation attendue pourrait retarder la mise à disposition jusqu’à la fin du mois de janvier.

Christians murdered by Islamic militants

 

In the largest Muslim-majority country in the world, this Friday four Christians of the Salvation Army were killed on the island of Sulawesi.



The Salvation Army is a humanitarian organization whose goal is to meet the material and spiritual needs of the poorest.



On Friday November 27, an armed group attacked a Salvation Army post in the village of Lemban Tongoa on the island of Sulawesi. The village chief and the police told the press about the murder of four Christian men - including one who was beheaded - as well as the ensuing torching of several houses.



This action was quickly counted as terrorism. This Tuesday, police forces were joined by the Indonesian army in tracking down the attackers. The latter are suspected of being members of the East Indonesian Mujahideen (MIT). The MIT is one of the groups that has pledged allegiance to the Islamic State.



The Salvation Army reacted by offering their condolences to the families of the victims "our hearts go out to our people who have been victims of evil, and to the families of those whose faith have caused such harm". On Monday, the spokesperson added "the victim can be anyone. Terrorism, whatever its form or forms, is the enemy of all religion" and he invited Christians not to worry.

Quatre chrétiens de l’Armée du Salut ont été assassinés ce vendredi sur l’île de Sulawesi. Pour rappel, l’Indonésie est le plus grand pays à majorité musulmane au monde.



L’Armée du Salut est une organisation humanitaire qui vient en aide aux plus démunis en réponse à leurs besoins matériels et spirituels.



Vendredi 27 novembre, quatre hommes ont été tués par un groupe armé dans le village de Lemban Tongoa au centre de la province de Sulawesi. L’un d’entre eux a été décapité, a déclaré le chef du village et la police.

Plusieurs maisons du village, dont la maison de prière ont également été incendiées.



Le mot « terrorisme » a vite été évoqué pour parler de cet acte et, dès mardi, l’armée indonésienne a rejoint la police pour traquer les assaillants. Ces derniers sont soupçonnés d’appartenir au groupe des moudjahidines de l'est de l'Indonésie, le MIT qui fait partie de dix groupes opérant en Indonésie qui ont prêté allégeance à l’État Islamique.



La première réaction de l’Armée du Salut a été de présenter ses condoléances aux familles des victimes : "Nos pensées vont à tous ceux qui ont été victimes du mal, et aux familles de ceux dont la foi a causé un tel préjudice". Ce lundi, le porte-parole a également invité les chrétiens à se rassurer sur la situation puis il a ajouté "La victime peut être n'importe qui. Le terrorisme, quelle qu'en soit la ou les formes, est l'ennemi de toute religion".
